Tartan triumph

Scotland pulled off the most stunning result of the day. James McFadden scored in the 64th minute as Scotland beat France 1-0 to surge to the top of Group B. Coupled with Italy's 2-1 win over Ukraine, France is suddenly on the outside looking in. Scotland is on 21 points, Italy on 20 and the French have 19.

Meanwhile, in what turned out to be no contest at all, England routed Russia 3-0. Five days ago, England's campaign appeared in trouble but now it's pretty solid. Only a massive collapse can seemingly keep England out at this point.
