Not a fan

Don't count Pumas coach Ricardo "Tuca" Ferreti as a fan of the Mexican national team's calendar. Ferreti went off on a rant about the Mexican Soccer Federation and wound up talking about the FMF's insistence on playing friendlies in the United States. Mexico plays Guatemala in L.A. on Oct. 17, but don't expect Tuca to catch the game on TV.

"How does that benefit Mexican soccer? It does not. Of course, playing Brazil is one thing but Guatemala again? Guate-worse? Second-class soccer for our paisanos in the U.S. who pay first-class prices? The Mexican national team is not preparing adequately for the World Cup. Why not go play in Spain? Why not go play in England? Or in South Africa? Or in Africa? Not these damned games who nobody watches except for our poor countrymen who are up there."

Who would think the majority of bigsoccer bloggers and USMNT supporters would find such a kindred spirit in the coach of Pumas? That's the attitude!

Isn't Tuca Ferretti an Oklahoma State booster, too?

Some people just can't help but be brutally honest.

Garbage!!!

Did Tuca talk about the Gay World Cup, I would be much more interested in hearing his opinions on that matter..

And when will L.B get around to covering that tourney, there is a Tricolor representative!!

Running Blog perhaps??

Guatemala. Guatepeor. This guy is the Bill O' Riley of the FMF.

Not to get political, but that seriously made me LOL. I've never heard of Mexicans in the USA being poor compared to Mexicans in Mexico.

Not sure if he meant poor as in lacking funds or poor as in "poor guy has to endure that, I feel for him"

Don't we all - Mexico and the USA - want to play the big boys in Europe more and the Concacaf smaller teams a bit less? Nothing wrong with that attitude. Both Mexico and USA need to find some way to play Euro teams more often and over there. I would think a biennial World Cup is the way to go, but perhaps an "off year" tournament could be devised.

I can see Tuca's point, for sure. What will Mexico gain from beating Guatemala? A tough-luck loss to Brazil will serve Mexico better than any result they get against, as Tuca put it, Guatepeor.

I've always though Mexico should play in Europe more often, but perhaps FMF officials feel that their players get tested internationally by competing in Copa Libertadores and the occasional Brazil-type friendly.

What a beautiful, shavian rant. Provoking laughter and tears and deep dangerous thoughts. I <3 Tuca.

Maybe, as Luis says, "FMF officials feel that their players get tested internationally by competing in Copa Libertadores and the occasional Brazil-type friendly." I think it's more likely FMF officials like the money they make in the U.S. too much to break away from it.

Couldn't we meet in the middle and try playing about five of the five hundred games El Tri are forced to play a year in Africa and Europe? Sure they'll lose a few bucks probably, but Mexico travels well, tell the people were you'll be and many will follow.

Ok... Hey Tuca... Europe? I don't think so. Viva Guate!
