Seattle USOC story

Here's the finished product, my PE column for Tuesday on the underdog Seattle Sounders.

The story sort of just ends, and it did end a bit early. Unlike the web, where you have endless space, newspaper stories sometimes get trimmed to fit into a hole.

Here's the final quote that didn't make it into the story.

"MLS teams come in with a little bit of ‘Well, it’s a lower division’ and they might have that type of mentality,” Schmetzer said. “When you are the supposed underdog you can really play with a lot more freedom. You’re not supposed to win. You just play a little bit of a looser game. It seemed like on those days, things kind of clicked in.”

Thanks for the coverage. I hope you came away with a good impression of the Sounders organization, coach, and supporters! Cheers.

I'm looking forward to this one more than any MLS game this season (with the possible exception of those last two Galaxy SuperLiga games.) Sounders can definitely do this one if they're on. If they play like they did against Chivas and Rapids, they could go all the way.

I'm just hoping the rain stops before the game! (Although we probably have a lot more rain experience than Dallas, so that might be a plus.)

I doubt Dallas will come in with any attitude. The tournament is called the Lamar Hunt US Open after all. That family wants that trohpy real bad, and the team is in a very bad mood.
