Friendly fire

With less than three weeks to go before the start of the regular season, preseason friendlies are coming at us quickly. Seemingly every club now has a slew of games to look back at and learn from and, more importantly, to base roster decisions off of.

As for the results of the games themselves, it matters not in the slightest who wins or loses these games. In fact, the only results that matter before March 29 will be Houston and DC and their respective CONCACAF Champions Cup matches.

Now, if a team is consistently getting blitzed 6-0, there might be a problem but even then what would be troubling is the amount of goals surrendered, not the loss itself.

So as the Galaxy dealt with the hoopla of the Pan Pacific Championship and their Asian tour, the lack of results will almost be inconsequential, as was Chivas USA's 0-for-3 in Texas. Those results won't matter one bit come March 29. As Ante Razov told me last year - you don't win championships in March.

when exactly does Chivas USA win titles?

Razov himself has won plenty of titles, from MLS Cup 98 to several US Open Cups with the Chicago Fire. He knows what it takes to win championships.
