Hugo is gone

Booted from the head coaching job of El Tri. My main man, Jesus Ramirez, is taking over as interim coach. It's possible that "Chucho" could also get the job permanently, like Bob Bradley did the USMNT job. What a fall from grace to straight-out disgrace Hugo had!

The LA Times worked quick with this story...

It's interesting to see how much Hugo was getting paid. I mean, $8 million DOLLARS!...in less than two years?

AC,

who do you think gets the job? Do you think Ramirez is Mexico's version of Bob Bradley?

I'm thinking Pekerman, but that's just my opinion. I don't know how the FMF thinks.

Another Argentine? I think Ramirez should get the job, but I think Mexico will go with a big name or with Aguirre again.

I can't decide if this is good or bad for the US.

Mexico with a competent coach, or Mexico with a new coach, new staff, new system, and even more media pressure.

At first I was sad because I figured that any replacement is likely to get more out of Mexico and therefore start winning some of the games against the US.

Then I thought, you know, the US is good enough now that I shouldn't hope for Mexico to be undercoached. The better they are, the better we are. Also, that way I get to savor my schadenfreude about Hugo's firing more.

You think he'll hold a press conference soon pointing out that even though he got fired, he actually controlled possession for most of the meeting?

jon e - brilliant! That would so be Hugo's MO.

Honestly, I wonder what he's going to do now and what he will say about the whole thing.

From Hugo: It's obvious that the better coach did not win today.

I'm not as high on Pekerman as some people are, mostly because I don't think his success at the youth level has translated to the senior level. His tactical decisions are iffy at times, especially when you think about that now infamous Argentina vs. Germany game in 2006. Also it's not like Toluca has set the Mexican league on fire since he arrived. They've been decent, but not anything spectacular. I think Ramirez is the better choice, but I have a feeling that the FMF either goes with Pekerman or some other big named coach.

I heard the FMF is interested in bring Lalas in so he can help build the new Mexican super team.

Y si Lalas venga, ya venira la nueva era de Esteve Esampson!!

Seriously, though, all this does is make Hugool available for the Galaxy job once Lalas fires Gullit in the next few months....:D

Actually, I hope Feretti gets the job. He "deserves" it, shall we say....
