Pachuca's reign is over.
Holders of four trophies entering the match, Pachuca was eliminated from contention from Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday despite a 2-0 win over Club America. Las Aguilas advanced on a 4-3 aggregate and will play Brazilian side Vasco da Gama in the next round.
Christian Gimenez accounted for both goals; he scored one directly off a set piece and forced Guillermo Ochoa to make a save on another, which Damian Alvarez cleaned up and put past "Memo" for another goal. But los Tuzos fell just one goal short of pulling off the result.
It was a historic run for sure and los Tuzos can still make history by winning the Apertura season. Only one other team has pulled off the feat since the Mexican league switched to its current short-season format in 1996.

Mortal? Yes.
But so are all football clubs. Based on the football we saw tonight though... I think it's prudent to say that the bad streak might have come to an end.
The Tuzos played extremely well, looked like themselves again.
Like I said in an earlier post... Manzur is not even a quarter of the man Aquivaldo was, and that position is better filled out by "Pollo" Salazar or Marco Ivan Perez.
You mean winning both the Clausura and the Apertura? And Pumas did it in 2004? Is that right? Hey - I had a question about that. Does this mean Pachuca might play themselves before the start of the next Clausura?
I'm not about to count them out just yet. If they do make the playoffs, I would not want Chivas to be matches against them.
Pretty exciting match last night and Memo relly had to stretch to prevent Pachuca from getting the upper hand.
