Joltin' Joe

The always colorful Joe Cannon describing Sunday's game:

I almost felt like we were a second division or a pub team and they were Chelsea.

He was ruthless at today's game. You gotta hand it to The Cannon. As I type this, he's at a hotel bar, drinking himself stupid.

Ah, Joe - he nearly pulled it off too. If Prus had seen Dasan Robinson pull down Troy Roberts, it could have all been different.

Prus saw it, so did the linesman.

Cojones. Guess not every man has 'em.

The refereeing today was tragic, and though I don't blame them for Galaxy's loss [despite the bearhug in the box] how can you expect the average fan not to be frustrated with a ref like that? And can you really blame an average fan of "making excuses" when they do blame a ref like that on a game like today with calls like the ones he did and didn't make.

I wish I was at a hotel bar drinking myself stupid with The Cannon. Hey Gals - have fun in Oz & NZ next month.

Cannon was extremely candid in his post-game news conference. He's always been honest, but it was a bit surprising at how honest he was. I like and respect that.

I also like the fact that even though it was said the press conference was over, he turned to their media guy and said, no, one more, because he had seen me raised my hand.

Not many guys in that situation would have wanted to take one last question.

He was the MVP of the team on many aspects.

And since I know he read this blog, shutout to Joe.

Those honest goalkeepers, they're the best.

You have to give him a lot of respect. From the opening minutes he was under pressure and he never backed down, was always aggressive (see his take down of Wanchope) and as far as I can remember, he only hesitated briefly one time.

Sure, the Fire's abysmal finishing helped him a bit but Cannon kept giving the Galaxy a chance to win the match. I told my son to watch for Cannon to come up on a last minute corner. I thought he was going to win the match ala Jimmy Glass (for Carlisle).

Not to be but he should hold his head high.

Bear hug or not there were plenty of non-calls going both ways. There were bodies flying all over the place for most of the match, so it all equals out. The fact of the matter is that the Galaxy could not win when the pressure was on. They couldn't win under the Beckham spotlight and they couldn't win with the playoffs on the line.
