Mexico's final friendlies for 2007 - at least those on U.S. soil - were announced today. Mexico will play Brazil on Sept. 12 at Gillette Stadium and China on Oct. 17 at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum. Both dates are international fixture dates.
I'd probably be more excited for the Mexico-Brazil game if they hadn't just played in Copa America last month and if they were playing in L.A. but it'll be a good game to watch nonetheless. I'll probably be Mexico-China match, but hopefully it won't be as bad as the last time Mexico played an Asian side there. In February 2006, Mexico lost to South Korea 1-0 at the Coliseum on a terrible blunder by Oswaldo Sanchez.
I'm sure I'll get more into the meaning of the matches as we approach them - at least for Mexico - but they should serve as a chance to bring in new players to the squad and continue helping some of the younger players opportunities. That means (hopefully) no Oswaldo Sanchez, Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Jared Borgetti, Pavel Pardo, etc., etc.
Would this be a good time to bring in Giovani Dos Santos? I'd say yes, at least for the China match. I can understand wanting to bring in your top team to try and go all out against Brazil, and that would probably mean no uncapped players for the match, but the China match should be used to help incorporate Dos Santos and maybe Carlos Vela and Patricio Araujo into the fold as well.
