Joel is right, Terrazas' stuff is very clever.
Here, the Pachuca gopher celebrates doing well in different competitions, jumping from the SuperLiga to the Mexican league Apertura with his crown intact.
"On the right foot here, on the right foot there" says the ebullient Tuzo.
I went back a little further to find other SuperLiga topical cartoons.
In this one, the Pachuca gopher, the lone Mexican league survivor, brings the skulls of the other squads eliminated in the SuperLiga. The Tecos Owl (Pachuca's first league opponent) says, "Don't think you're impressing me with your deadliness."
"I didn't kill them," responds the gopher, "I came to give them a Christian burial."
DC United looks scary in this one.
The Club America eagle squacks that he is being treated like an undocumented worker - the DC United brute says, "At least we give them a chance to run." I'm not sure I get this one, actually. It's tough to follow the line of reasoning - that MLS teams are as strong as our government? If so, then why is the traditional thinking that the soccer here is really weak?
Well, can't say that this cartoon doesn't give MLS respect.
Here, MLS is the superman, saying to the bruised Mexican squads, "Come on kids, let's continue with your summer school."
Ha! This one has nothing to do with SuperLiga, but I thought it was hilarious. All the teams of the Mexican league are going after the Pachuca gopher's crown.
This cartoon could explain some of the attitude towards SuperLiga, though. Castroman, Club America's new player says, "I'm super-motivated to be champion.", while the eagle tells him, "Save it for the league games, SuperLiga isn't important to us."
Hey, look who is starring in a production of "Chicago"!
