At the presser

Jaime Cardenas is not getting any Christmas cards from Canada's Nick Dasovic. Jaime asked in the press conference if there was any agreement between Canada and Guatemala for the game. Nick, trying to keep his emotions in check, refused to answer that question.
Here's how I would have phrased it, "Nick, conspiracy theories being what they are, some people are going to wonder if there was any agreement between Canada and Guatemala for this game - what would you say to those people?"
Hey, I figure, if there's a question a reporter feels needs to be asked because people at large will wonder about it, then blame "those people" for the question.
Scott French says, "I thought [Jaime's] question was tongue-in-cheek." Jaime said it was, a little bit, and he wanted to hear the reaction. You can hear the reaction of reporter Nick Green clearly - he's the one laughing.

Could you imagine Bruce Arena fielding that question?

only someone from the mexican press could ask that question..there is always someone to blame..always a conspiracy..someone is always corrupt.

IT SEEMs like MExico was the team that should be investigated. HAITI could not even try to make it look like a real game. 2 defenders 7 midfielders and 1 forward? Mexico is gifted the match and still can't get it done. MEXICO "its time to cry"

There is a huge rivalry between Mexico and Guatemala, really between Mexico and all the major futbol playing nations in Central America (i.e everyone but Belize and Nicaragua) and as a.c. herself noted in her running commentary on Canada-Guatemala, the chapines (Guatemalan) fans were celebrating their team losing 5-0 because they knew what that meant for Mexico.

Jaime Cardenas may have asked his question tongue in cheek but it is a legitimate question to ask especially when Guatemala with one of the best defenses in the tournament gave up 5 goals in it's final game, whether it was using subs or not. Without the necessity of winning their last game Guatemala were quite happy to have complicated matters greatly for Mexico.

Haiti on the other hand threw everyone forward because they would have still been able to qualify with a win or I beleive with a tie. Correct me if I'm wrong but a Haitian tie tonight would have put them even on points with Canada and the first tie breaker isn't goal difference but head to head record where Haiti defeated Canada. So Haiti were looking for at least a tie and threw people forward in that hope which left their defense and goalie exposed.

LMFAO!!! Great question Jaime! Besides that though, Mexico should have never had to worry about any bullshit conspiracies and what not. Win or lose, no fucken excuses!!! They are like assholes...u know the rest. I am and will always be there supporting Mexico, win, lose or draw. We need to be good sportsmen and accept we fucked up, no excuses. Hugo should have kept his big ass mouth shut and let Lavolpe work, and also not make promiseshe will not keep. It breaks my heart that we did not qualify, but I hope we learn this very important lesson... never come into a tournament thinking that you win by just going into the pitch wearing the GREEN!!!

Michoacano

P.S. Jaime I didn't know you worked for the Mexican Press??? Great job!

Would a US reporter have asked a question about a US soccer game being fixed. Cardenas asked that question..not Jones..it does not matter that Cardenas works for the Times or El Sol. It is the first thing that comes to the mind of a Mexican when things go wrong..it was fixed..so..yes..Cardenas represents the Mexican press..because no one except a Mexican would even think about that..

hey gabriel in AR...there are other Mexican-hating sites (like Ives') that would better suit your purpose.

Gabriel, what is your problem? The comment was obviously a joke, and honestly, I think Dasovic took as such, he seemed to have a bit of a smirk on his face when he refused to answer it.

Also US fans have been known to throw around conspiracy theories as well. I know people that still fume at the Costa Rica-US game where Pendergrast awarded the Ticos a pk in the dying minutes of a world cup qialifier and truly believe the game was fixed. US fans complain about the refs all the time and blame them for bad outcomes regularly. Hell, all sports fans do at some point.
