On the G bus

Here's pics of the ACB, Riot Squad and other Galaxy fans up at Oakland. I rode up in one of the bus charter deals arranged for fans (thanks Galaxy staff for helping me get a spot). The bus trip was interesting. I was tired, so I actually was trying in vain to sleep while others were practicing chants, watching the Galaxy anniversary DVD, and complaining about the wimpy air conditioning, but those with more energy had more fun.
The bus wasn't supposed to leave Oakland until 10:30 last night. I had planned to file by then, but in the middle of the presser, I was informed by one of the Galaxy press staff that my bus was ready to leave right then (about 9:30). I had to grab my stuff and leave. Sorry to any Galaxy fans who were stuck on the bus waiting for me.
Thanks to my editor, Jen Chang, who accepted the article this morning instead.
Thanks to Mario, Tommy, Justin, Patrick, Sahar and Gary for making sure my bus didn't leave without me. Thanks again to Jonah for letting me use his MacBook.
The moral of this story is: I need a Blackberry. Then I could just file from a moving bus.

I guess the lecture on streamer etiquette fell on deaf ears?

I kid...

Actually, the LA fans were following the guidelines - you can see the Galaxy players are jogging back after celebrating their goal in a hugfest. So the streamers weren't holding up play.

Andrea, please post some observations about the whole bus trip, maybe even an article. Sounds like an awesome time!

I wish I could have gone but an 18 month old makes that a tough proposition.

I don't have much in the way to offer as observation - I did go, but I was really tired and trying to sleep. If I had had more energy, it would have been a different experience perhaps. Everybody seemed nice. People shared snacks. It was hot when we traveled up, and everyone just wanted to get there. On the way back, we were traveling through the night, so people were pretty quiet. Also, I think I was on one of the quieter buses. We had a few little kids on ours, so no one got too crazy.

nice meeting you, Andrea!

mario and I were actually the ones that said you were missing. When the dude was taking head count, he was about to leave till mario was like 'nooo' haha

Thanks Tommy (and Mario)!

It would have been a really long walk from Oakland if I'd been left behind.

Ahh!! How could I have missed this!! My favorite football journalist went on the trip and I didn't even notice. Good to see you came along though.

Glad you didn't get one of the crazy buses.

Andrea = Galaxy homer.

It's official.

What's official is that I had an assignment to cover the game, and with the U.S. match the next day, there was no way I was going to drive that distance. Flying would have taken most of what I would make on writing the article.

Contrary to popular reports, Andrea, I would not have let that bus move an inch further until you were safely on board.

No worries, Gary, I know you came looking for me - that's how I got back to the bus! Thanks one and all for looking after me.

Hey A.C.!! Do you see the Galaxy brining in anyone over the summer? Possibly a midfielder with some holding presence or maybe Lalas could convince McBride to move out to LA and become part of Los Galacticos jr.

I think McBride is set on going to Chicago.
