Canales Corner #5

I'm fighting laryngitis, so apologies for my voice sounding strained.

:( I forgot to preview the Midwest matchup of KC vs Cbus. I'm calling it for KC, though I also think the Crew will break that horrid scoreless streak of theirs.

I LOVE YOU ANDREA CANALES! You are amazing. And I can name a Barbados player: Neil Harvey. He plays for Retford United...lol.

The league should have schedule Colorado vs. Salt Lake and Chivas vs. Toronto for rivalry reasons. Chivas and Toronto doesn't really have a rivalry, but there is the Amado Guevara story line.

What's with Mathis and the Galaxy? Are they going to sign him? Did he make the trip to SJ?

I hope to god that someone with some pull at ESPN reads Sideline Views, and promptly calls A.C. up to Bristol so that she can replace Julie Foudy.

This is off topic, but ESPN has serious work to do with their football coverage in advance of the 2010 World Cup. I love the fact that I can watch every Euro 2008 game (j'aime Les Bleus, allez Les Bleus aujourd'hui!!!), but the commentary is atrocious, especially from whatever dickweed they put in the far left studio chair to facilitate the musings of Foudy, Gray, and Smythe.

I can't possibly watch this drivel come World Cup time. My eyes and ears will bleed...

Seriously, will you marry me?

Nice job AC. I think the raspy voice is kinda sexy ;).

Good job by NE last night. I haven't watched as much MLS as I have in the past, but they played some good soccer last night and without Joseph too. Their coach does the best job in the MLS year in and year out, IMO.

One of my big criticisms remain though, and that is the refereeing. That guy last night, although consistent, just didn't know what is and isn't a foul. And when a ref misreading the calls like that it really disrupts the game, again IMO.

Ah, in reading the comments to this post for a moment I thought I'd stumbled over yet another dating service. Gentlemen, we can all acknowledge the charms of Ms. A.C. and still recognize this is a soccer site. Yes? Now, lads, show some dignity! :)

That was a clever ploy, A.C., to hit us with that quick "name a Barbados player" jab. Fortunately I'd just been at the Crystal Palace site and so could mutter..".uh...Paul Ifill!". But that was the blind luck of websurfing.....No, Barbados should not be any challenge. But I have full confidence in Bradley's ability to minimize our advantages. I get the impression you are not particularly dazzled by Bob's managerial talents, and am curious as to what you would have predicted for this series. In any case, how about 3-0 first leg, and 2-1 second?

As for MLS rivalry week, agree with Cacuzcatlan that MLS should have gone all out on that theme. I really hadn't even noticed the concentration of rivalry games until you'd mentioned it...
By now most of the results are in, and there have been very few close games, eh? But some beautiful goals. In that regard, A.C. what do you think is going on with Chivas USA. They are the Jekyll and Hyde team of the season, so far.

Obviously, my predictions were off this week. I blame the crazy nature of rivalries, when one team can ride emotion to a big win while the other suffers a big let down.
As far as compliments go, thank you one and all - it's a fact of the profession that one needs a level of attractiveness to succeed in the TV game, where I'd like to progress for financial stability, if nothing else. So any reassurance that I'm ok on that count is cool.
Barbados shouldn't be a test for the U.S, but these are important auditions for Bradley's eye. As far as what I think of Bradley's coaching - well, at times, I'm impressed, other times less so. Never am I shocked and surprised, either positively or negatively.
