Guzan to stay after all

Brad Guzan is not going anywhere. Guzan's work permit was denied which means his move to aston villa was squashed. While it is a personal setback for Brad, Chivas USA will certainly benefit.

It would have been nice to have an MLS product like brad go abroad, it will be a pleasure to have him around for another year.

Let's hope for Brad's sake that he has another standout year, gets more playing time with the usmnt and heads to Europe a year from now.

Hopefully Bob Bradley will play Guzan exclusively for the rest of the year. I'm not sure El Guzano can get enough caps by the summer transfer window, but if so, Chivas USA & MLS will be satisfied. If not, looks like he'll move on a Bosman a year from now.

I believe Brad has to now wait a full calendar year before reapplying, well beyond the summer transfers. Same happened to Convey.

I'd be interested in a comparison of Tim Howard's bona fides vs. Guzan's at the time of application.

he's gone in the summer. there will be $6 million offer for him and that will be that. This is good news for everyone but Villa. Brad will make a lot more money once he becomes a well known commodity over the coming months.

Excellent point above. The denied applicaton was for England only. Brad is free to go during the next transfer window, just not to the EPL.

My post above is misleading in that regard. Mea Culpa...

Chivas USA is damn lucky Guzan didn't leave. They had nobody to replace him if they did. Who was Antonio Cue going to get?

Talk about poor planning...

No one is bidding $6M for a keeper who will be on a free in 6 months. He will make a lot more money (in terms of salary) if he does in fact wait to leave on a free, instead of being purchased.

Aren't Guzan's rights still MLS's either way? And wouldn't his contract be up at the end of the season? Isn't there a transfer window before that point?

If Carson is rumored to be valued att 18 million (and not below 15), and Guzan was considered a replacement than he can surely get 2 mill more than he was getting now.

Chivas needs to treat this year as a must win. Preki's 2 year contract was already impetus enough for him. The fact Razov isn't getting any younger and Guzan is playing on borrowed time must be a catalyst for Cue to do something.

Still waiting to hear what came out of those meetings Cue was having with the Chivas brass. Any news Luis? Should we start a petition for them to provide you sources?
