David Beckham got his wish to be in the starting lineup.
He's also the Galaxy captain for this match, even though Landon Donovan is also starting.
I asked Frank about the change and he said Landon and Becks talked about the move on Tuesday. Landon, Frank said, respected Beckham's captaincy experience and offered the Galaxy title to Becks.

Huh? you play 1 league game for a team and get named team captain? I think I know what gives but its still kind of messed up for those left who have fought for that team for the last few years. How about letting him play a few games first so he can earn the respect of his teammates and fans the old fashion way (or something like that).
27th minute, instant respect. Effortless.
A goal. An assist. Numerous throughballs. A tough and tumble tackle for a yellow card. Fantastic game, for Galaxy captain David Beckham.
Matt
P.S. Seriously, why doesn't this blog/website have a sponsor or three. I have seen you linked on numerous sites.

there is no one else on the team with the experience, desire, professionalism and passion to be a more suitable captain.
donovan is a fantastic player, but he was never a very good captain. it's just not in his personality.
Agreed LD may not be a "very good" captain. I guess that why Bradley has tried to go with other players for captain of the USMNT. It wasn't that I didn'think Beckham was qualified Matt I but usually you give to someone AFTER they have put in 1 performance that merits not before he's done it. We all know its his team so one game or no game in the long run he was going to get the arm regardless. He actually played defense last night...hell of a free kick from the guy.
Seems a little quick to me, but he did lead the team to the win. If Beckham can work that kind of magic as captain the rest of the season the Galaxy may actually make the playoffs.
It makes sense for Bex to be captain for lots of reasons. But honest question: Since when does the captain have complete license to name someone else as captain?
Aren't the other players or the coaching staff involved in that decision? Again -- I can't imagine anyone really disagreeing with that move, it just makes me wonder how these things go down.
If you read my espn.com piece, it details how Landon checked with Frank before offering the armband to Beckham.
What ... I'm supposed to know what I'm talking about or something?
Duly noted. Very nice article and very class move by Donovan.
No, I agree it's a little unusual. Most captain moved are made by the coach.
