It's official

Chivas USA sent a conditional 2009 SuperDraft pick to FC Dallas for Ramon Nunez.

The 21-year-old midfielder met up with his new team on Wednesday morning and will be eligible to play Saturday in Toronto.

It's a good deal for Chivas in that if Nunez does not pan out, the club doesn't give up much for him. And if they end up giving up a high draft pick, that means that Nunez will have produced for them in 2007 and 2008.

Does this mean that the Cubans training with Chivas USA will have to stay on the 'training team'?

I'll have a story on the Cubans later in the week, so you can read all about them then. But I will tell you now that they are very much in the mix for some point either this season or next.

Of course, it's all contingent upon the Cubans actually getting some sort of paperwork in order and that's expected in the coming weeks if all goes well.

Hey Luis,

Would the Cubans have an easier time gettting their "paperwork" done if they were baseball players trying to sign with the Yankees, for example?

It seems like this issue has been dragging for a while.

The Cubans would have had an easier time had they defected in the Dominican - which is what a lot of the baseball player do.

They also would have had an easier time had they proccessed their paper work in Seattle or Idaho or Montana, states that don't have a lot of applications to deal with - likie Florida, New York and California.

Thanks, Jaime C.!

Congrats on the promotion!

CUSA needs reinforcements. I guess we'll have to settle for who we can get.
