Buyer's market

Besides pointing Laurent Merlin in Chivas USA's direction, the Galaxy may have helped convince the French player to lower his price point slightly in signing for the other LA team. Apparently, Merlin was holding out for a senior spot when negotiating with the Galaxy, though he has now accepted a developmental roster position with Chivas USA.

"He’s going to get a chance to play," said Frank Yallop of the benefits of Merlin's move to Chivas USA.

"If he was here, still, he’d probably get that, too, because now we’ve got injuries to Gaven Glinton and Alan Gordon. I didn’t realize that they’d be out this long. I’d have had to move one of them or Robbie Findley to add Laurent. Besides, Chivas USA has signed him to a developmental contract. When we were talking, it was about joining the roster."
