Mexico doesn't make it

Despite raucous home support, Mexico couldn't close the one-goal lead Canada staked out and now both men's and women's teams are shut out of the Olympics.
The article focuses on athleticism and fitness being a weak point of the female El Tri squad. They didn't care for the U.S. ref, either, but ultimately, the author admits Canada was stronger and tougher.

Mexico WMT has very little support from the FMF, no professional or developmental league and no university system for playing soccer like the U.S. and Canada. In addition, they don't have much fan support (generally speaking)or interest. Despite these setbacks they have managed to produce a competitive team but unfortunately for them they won't be able to be protagonists until more infrastructure and support exists in the country.

Blaming the ref. There's a first for a Mexican national team. =\

Blaming the ref is also as American as apple pie. Check out Tommy Soehn's comments as to a big part of the reason DC United lost:

It's not unique to Mexico...

so what it a PK or WHAT!!! There is a diffrence if duing 1 game you blame the REF
MEXICANS blame every loss on the REF here is just a list of some...

Bolivia 3-1 Mexico 97 gold cup
Us 2-0 Columbus 2002 qualifying
Us 2-0 Columbus 2006 Qualifying
US 2-0 Feb 2007
US 2-1 Gold Cup final
Honduras 2-1 Gold Cup match
Costa Rica 3-3 tie in Mexico 98 qualifying

I bet I could name hundreds more by I have already exceeded my lunch break. Ask and hispanic fan that is not from MExico and they would all tell you the same thing. IT IS WHAT IT IS.

Oh, I don't doubt that. Still, once in my lifetime, I'd like to read an article where the Mexican National Team does not blame (even partially) the refs for a loss to a fellow North Aerican side.

Hey, Americans also blame the ref. as you say, IT IS WHAT IT IS. It is not my fault if you don't like the truth when looking at yourself in the mirror.

Hope the Canadian women demolish the U.S. in Mexico. The American ladies deserve it after the whole Hope Solo fiasco at the Women's World Cup last year. Their behavior was despicable, in my not-so-humble opinion.

had to laugh when i read this, so much for mexico being the giants of CONCACAF.

lol

btw, i would venture to guess that quite a few of their female players grew up in the states, so is it fair to say they have no support? no support in mexico, i will buy that, but i would like to see how many of their female players are university players in the states
