The U.S. women keep rolling over the competition at the Algarve Cup. Lindsey Tarpley's hot streak cannot be denied. In hindsight, it's looking worse and worse, that decision by Greg Ryan to play her so little during the World Cup.
The U.S. team's earlier trouncing of China is also having repercussions for that team.

go usa! tarpley, i agree, is on fire and greg was stupid not to use her. it seems pia is improving this team for the better and using all of the subs to make sure everyone gets time to play, which in the end makes the team have better chemistry.
wow at the china coach blaming her players for the loss. didnt know she was in so much hot water with chinese officials.
'greg ryan'
'bad decision'
'women's world cup 2007'
3 terms that are far too common unfortunately.
I find the situation with China's coach a little amusing, though. I mean, a big part of the argument is about a "hot pot".
How can you not make "tempest in a hot pot" jokes?
A French women, late for something: NEVER. Sounds like a cultural clash to me. I guess the coach needs to accept the players need the hotpot, and the players need to accept the coach is French and being on time isn't a cultural priority. Frankly i think its china that will lose in the end if they do not work it out.
As much as some Americans make "french" jokes, we are pretty similar in our characteristics including being a little rebellious: particularly when it comes to suffocating authority figures. I would not do well in that environment myself with the Chinese government meddling in, day in, and day out. Given the complexity of the Chinese culture, if they are going to hire a foreign coach, maybe they should hire someone more conducive to there take on authority like a German coach or something.
Loisel should be lucky that she's not a member of Falun Gong, an activist supporting Tibet or criticizing Darfur, nor somebody who makes a habit of criticizing the Chinese dictatorship...
Yea Tarpley's got a fine performance :)
