There are definitely fans/readers of Luis' that think he's a homer (not necessarily the case) for El Tri, and that he roots for El Tri against the USA (which I have no idea what is the truth on this one :) )

Apologies for being pedantic here but there is a difference in meaning.
Mexico needs to beat Haiti and hope Canada doesn't equal them against already qualified Guatemala. Canadian and Mexican victories on Sunday by identical scores will require a coin flip to see who advances! They each have identical goals for and against and head to head tied.
my issue with Luis (and not really an issue because I read him and enjoy his writing) is that like many sportswriters in the US covering the Mexican Nat'l team they have to be careful what they say for fear of the backlash..that is, if he is too critical then he will lose "credibility" with a large segment of the Mexican population. On the other hand, he does not have to worry about how hard or soft he is on the US because there will not be the "nationalist" reaction..just keep an eye on his writing or the tv announcers when they cover the national team..you will notice the difference..Andres Cantor being one of the biggest of the "check your language" school
gabriel, i think you're off base. Clearly, you didn't see Luis' reaction when the U.S. beat Mexico last year in Phoenix (Feb 2007, I believe?). If you read what he wrote back then you wouldn't be judging him the way you are...
Chueco, I respectfully disagree. However, I am willing to see how it works out in the future. I do not think Luis is a bad guy by any means. As I said, I enjoy reading him. However, I am also aware of what he is "able" to say and what he is not "able" to say. More than likely he has internalized the constraint he is under so it is jut natural. We all know we have to be careful of what we say in front of paisanos..
