When last they played a first-division match, Puebla lost to Tigres 3-0 on May 8, 2005. Afterward, Los Camoteros were relegated to the Primera A division and fell into relative obscurity.
After two long seasons in Mexico's second tier, Puebla won promotion back to the first division. On Sunday, Puebla made its return to first-division soccer against one of Mexico's premier clubs. Puebla tied America 0-0 on Sunday. Though it wasn't a victorious return, it was refreshing to see Puebla's familiar light-blue and white jerseys again.
Puebla, though, will be hard-pressed to stay in the first division. The club, which is understandably lacking starpower, needs victories now not only to compete for a playoff spot but to avoid the fate that Queretaro and Dorados had when they were each sent packing from Mexico's top flight.
