Galactic pub team

It didn't take long for the British media to lay into the Galaxy. I'm sure most of the stories that have come out over the last day or so could have been written shortly into the Galaxy's 3-0 loss to Tigres on Tuesday. But they, like all of us there, had to suffer through a pathetic performance from David Beckham's new team.

The Brits weren't kind.

In their assessments of the Galaxy, the club was referred to as a "Sunday morning pub side" and one writer went so far as to call Beckham a "Beverly Hills star in a skid row team."

This story does a good job of providing some samples of what was written across the spectrum on the other side of the pond.

What did people expect when Becks arrived? The team was bad last year and Lalas has shipped off so many people that made it decent just so he could be under the salary cap. Now they are worst much worst with only Chivas and RSL, and Chicago to beat. The worst part is not only will the circus continue to distract this team as the build has done for the past 2 months but they will be on the road for league and exhibition games. Imagine what this team will play like when visiting Toronto, New York, or DC. There is a totality working here meaning there are a lot of things to blame. Coaches, players, GM, and a preference to put gloss over substance. Not that the Brits aren't over doing it a bit but the reality is LAG have been sorry for a while.

Oh well you can always look forward to beating Chivas.

I can't wait until the British media runs a story on how MLS have faired against 2nd and 3rd division competition in the Open Cup. It won't be pretty USL's website has a media window up showing USL 5 and MLS 3 on its site. How can you take a league seriously when its defending champion, "Jewel of the League" team, and defending regular champion all loose to lower division teams? Two of those being from the 3rd division. Two of 3 teams leading MLS's Western Conference standings are lost to USL 1 teams spin that in your State of the League address Don Garber!

Donovan to San Jose! Barnum and Bailey is a great place to take your kids, but I've heard the sword-swallower's over-rated. Move back to a real soccer team and leave the kiddies to enjoy Beckham's magic show.
