Dont' do it

David Beckham is not out with the Galaxy during pre-game warmups, which are going on as I type this in. He's listed on the roster as a reserve between Steve Cronin and Edson Buddle. But I just hope that he remains on the bench and doesn't play.

I honestly think he will just because he knows that a lot of people are expecting him to play, but for his own sake and for his short-term and long-term future, he shouldn't.

This game means nothing. If the Galaxy wins or loses or ties or whatever, it means nothing. Tuesday's game against Pachuca is more meaningful, so it would make sense to play him then but again you really wouldn't want to risk further injury.

I've set the over-under at 10 minutes played tonight, though the chatter here in the press box is that he'll play at least 15. A quarter-hour is too much, hell one minute is too much. But the Galaxy and ESPN have put themselves in this position by overhyping Beckham and his arrival and it all culminates tonight.

I just hope for his sake that sane heads prevail, television pressure be damned.
