Jose Mourinho mentioned that he would have been surprised at the tackle on David Beckham had it come from Frank Lampard, but that he was pleased to see Steve Sidwell looking to impress. Beckham seemed to think along the same lines, as far as determining Sidwell's motivation for the tackle.
"I saw him coming and I jumped just in time, so my foot wasn’t actually planted when he came in. He’s a good player – he’s done well in the Premiership and now he’s playing for a club like Chelsea. He’s going to want to smash something along the way – even in a friendly. Unfortunately, it was me tonight, but that's fine, that’s part and parcel of being a footballer."
