West Ham on the docket

With apologies to former colleague Matt Zimmerman... West Ham? Is that the best MLS could do?

MLS officially announced its long-rumored All-Star game opponent Thursday as the MLS All-Stars will take on West Ham United of the English Premier League.

I'm not a fan of the All-Star game and think it should be done away with entirely but at least if it's a club like Chelsea or Celtic there is some intrigue. I don't see the intrigue West Ham brings.

Astroturf (or is it called FieldTurf now?). Really, that field will be the biggest joke until people get a look at Seattle and will be shocked.

I also think the playing surface had an effect in what clubs were willing to come. I'm sure MLS also felt that they didn't need to bring a huge club since BMO Field will be sold out regardless of the opponent.

I'd like to see the All-Star game be more global. Lyon, for example, or Bayern Munich should come out. Milan would be great. Greg Daurio would pass out with excitement to cover that one.

I agree with A.C. on this point. Lets look at the Serie A and Argentina. Boca Juniors would have been awesome, Roma, Juve, Inter, AC Milan... But West Ham? Really? Who cares?! Then again, cacuzactlan has a great point. It's BMO Field, it will be sold out regardless. Which is good, dont get me wrong, but it wont be so hot for TV ratings.

Maybe this is just another example of the media being "anti-Hillary" and giving Obama a free ride. Everyone knows Obama is a West Ham fan....;)

My American cousins, you know nothing of football, even the West Ham fans are dissapointed that we are going to play the MLS All Stars, hardly any English Premier League teams are touring North America this summer, there isnt any money in it. England have this point of view about US Soccer.
