Can i ask you where you got your writing degree from? The back of a matchbox??? This is in regards to the article you wrote after the T.F.C. & L.A. game. I didn't realize Toronto F.C. was known as Canada's team, typical of an American with your Its us against the world thinking. It was nice of you to interview that little shit Landon Donavan, a player knw for spitting in the face of a Canadian Natioanl team player(you could call that team the Canadians) also a player known for being arrogant and so into himself ( like most Americans). It was also nice of you to call the loss to T.F.C. as humiliating for L.A. Humiliating? And why would that be??? Oh yes you were nice enough to report that Toronto F.C. had the worse record in the wholeeeeeeee league,WOW after a whopping 3 games. Unbelievable how bad you are at reporting. Maybe you should go to at least a junior college and travel the world with youre eyes open, you might see that it all doesn't revolve around the U.S.A.
My reply: Actually, TFC had the worst record in MLS last year, too. They are also Canada's only MLS team at present. If you're referring to the article on espn.com, that was a Beckham-focused sidebar that I was assigned to write. Here are a couple of other articles I wrote on the match.

If you're going to criticize people's writing ability, don't make dumb mistakes in your own comment. For instance, know the difference between "you're" and "your". Learn proper sentence formation and try and reduce your run-on sentences. Oh, and don't be an asshole.
go a.c.
This is why MLS fans, in general, hate TFC.
I ain't your buddy, friend!
I don't see what this guy is talking aboot. It IS an embarrassment to lose to a 2nd year expansion team when you're "The" L.A. Galaxy.
Someone with a 6th grade education (at best) is asking Andrea where she got her journalism degree.
That's funny.
The funniest part is that he doesn't think the loss is an embarrassment to L.A.
Wow, eh.
i'm a fan of your writing Andrea...
for the record, its an embarrassment to lose to BOTH the galaxy and TFC.
Wow, Canada has "Ugly Americans" too!
Oh yeah, also, Andrea, it goes w/o saying that we are all fans and know the sacrifices it takes to do this full time. Thanks for all of your hard work.
goff also called TFC "canada's team"

This guy has as big a chip on his shoulder as, well, as big as Canada. I can appreciate the passion Canadians have for TFC. That's great and good for all. But their record does speak for itself. Tough. Improve. I hope they do improve. But, I found no malice in any of Andrea C's articles. Express your comments, but check your personal attacks. There's no prejustice here, just opinions and football talk. Hey, my team lost today. A loss is a loss, whether it's to TFC or Gamba Osaka or Pachuca.

AMEN.
The funny thing is I have heard TFC fans on NUMEROUS occasions make the 'us vs. them' 'Canada vs USA' thing more than a few times.
When they aren't busy pulling their penises out in front of churches and getting arrested for it, (true story from this season) they are complaining that daddy doesn't love em.
Get out of the basement for more than 1 week TFC and then your fans may air all their 'grievances' with other fans, until then, focus on not sucking so incredibly hard.
Thanks in advance.
Andrea
I have a 15 year daughter who has spent the last 10 years of her life playing soccer. She's a player and ref. I always try and point out the different opportunities women have in soccer. I talk about the WPS, the women referees, commentators etc. When I came across your articles, columns and blog I told my wife how awesome it was to have yet another role model for girls in the game. Up until than it never occurred to me that she could also pursue a career as a soccer journalist. I make it a point to show her your work, and tell her about the cool things you get to do. Player interviews, reporting on games, the access you have as a journalist have compared to the average fan. I think you are another great role model for my daughter and I thank you.
Aw, thanks el rey! Your daughter sounds like she has so much experience already. I'm sure she'd make a great journalist, but there's still ground to be broken in other areas as well. I'd like to interview a female general manager in MLS, for example, or an owner, CEO or a director of soccer - the power players in the league could use different points of view.
Yep still a lot of work left to do, but womens soccer in this country can take a giant step forward if the WPS proves successful.
Andrea,
I've scanned the articles about the TFC vs Galaxy games...there is little mentioned about Cronin. OK Vanney was the 'anti-player of the week' for his performance. Agreed. But Cronin was as bad. Having seen the last 5 games including two from pre-season, it does not have the hands to play MLS. Count the number of times he spilled the ball in the TFC game, it was over 1/2 his chances.
Time for a move here Ruud.

So, it is true, Canadians do have smaller dicks than ours. Hose off, eh.
el rey, i hope you don't hope she earns a big bank account as a journalist.
But then again, she might be the next Rick Reilly.
By the way, Goff referred to TFC as "Canada's Team" on Sunday evening, so you're in good company.
That guy's lack of writing ability criticizing your writing ability made my irony meter explode.
Geez, and I thought Canadians were so polite.
I guess some people defy stereotyping.
It was funny, though, when I was getting a steady stream of e-mail after calling out Manchester United, that the morning e-mail -- primarily from England -- was witty while the evening e-mail -- primarily from American Eurosnobs -- was far nastier.
a.c., I can relate. I was covering a prep football game between Mater Dei and American Fork of Utah for the Deseret News of Salt Lake City in September (the game was in Santa Ana). Mater Dei built a big lead, then held off an American Fork rally to win. The American Fork fans were annoyed with me essentially because I wrote that their team lost! That's the way it is with the myopic fanatics. If you tell unpleasant truths, then you're an ignorant sellout.
Besides, a.c., lots of people would literally kill to do what we do for a living. The overwhelming majority of people in our profession don't appreciate that fact.
Moreover, you're probably the best soccer reporter in this area.
Jim, you make some excellent points - but while I believe in some ways my writing would improve if I was paid more (time to conduct more interviews, etc) in some ways, I'd hope the quality is high now when I'm not. That's not to say I'm above criticism, of course, and I actually appreciate the readers who point out how I can improve (thanks for the help with typos, guys)but M.M's email didn't seem like he was looking to do anything but bash.
