Made for TV

In Mexico, each club typically plays its home games at the same time. For instance, Atlas plays home games Saturday nights at 8:45 p.m. local time (central time). Pumas plays home games Sundays at noon; Cruz Azul plays Saturdays at 5 p.m.

Also, the games are broadcast according to home games. TV Azteca televises home games of Pachuca, Tecos, Morelia, Santos, Cruz Azul, Veracruz so those clubs' home matches are on Azteca America. Televisa has the rest of the clubs and the Univision network (Galavision, Telefutura, Univision) carries those games in the U.S.

During the Apertura's first game tonight, Pachuca dismantled Tecos 4-1. Pachuca looked as if the were in midseason form and playing very well. After the game I saw an interview with Justino Compean (head of FMF) and he said he'd just spoken with Jesus Martinez, owner of Pachuca. Mr. Martinez told Mr. Compean that he credited Pachuca's strong start to their participation in Superliga. Mr. Compean stated that he'd like for this tournament to continue. Apparently he has a good working relationship with Sunil Gulati and Don Garber.

I have to say it was disappointing to hear from him that this new Superliga serves purely as a demanding preseason, as far as FMF's perspective. The interview was during "Jorge Ramos en vivo" on Fox Sports en Espanol".

One last thing: He did say that Mexico is playing Brasil later this year here in the U.S. SUM (marketing arm of MLS, I believe - and also owns rights to Mexican NT in US) is finalizing details as far as venue.
