Captains courageous

Current England captain John Terry has apparently injured his knee and may not feature for the England national team while he recovers, which could perhaps take as long as a month.

David Beckham, the former team leader, is injured, in case anyone missed the Sturm und Drang about his ankle.

Who should step in as English captain for the squad's upcoming games?

I'd say Stevie Gerrard. Anyone disagree?

How could we? I know the word passion is overused, but he's the only one in the squad who showed much fervor before June.
I wasn't sure he shouldn't have been named ahead of Terry when Becks stepped down, but Terry may have been selected for his possibly more steadying hand(?). My vote's for Stevie, plus he was brilliant this weekend so the question is well timed.

I think Steven Gerrard is actually the vice-captain in an almost official capacity. I seem to remember when it was announced that Terry was going to be captain they also made a point to say that Gerrard was the backup skipper.

Wait -- Beckham is injured?

Gee, you'd think the media would report something like that....
