Brother, brother

John Hackworth has named his U17 squad for the World Cup in Korea. One thing that stood out to me was the addition of Kofi Sarkodie, the younger sibling of Ofori.

As far as I know, it's the first time that two brothers have participated in two youth World Cups in the same year.

Ofori, of course, was the captain of the US U17 squad that battled to the quarterfinals in Peru back in 2005. He then went on to make this year's U20 World Cup squad as one of the few college players.

Like the U20s were, the U17 crew is considered one of the favorites for the title. I'm sure Ofori will be pulling for his brother to go even further than he did.

I think that Preston Zimmerman's brother is also on the roster.

Yes, that's true, which is also notable. Brandon is on that roster, but I didn't mention that as part of this post because I was thinking of participation as actual playing time.

Preston didn't play at the U20 tournament. Which is not to say he wasn't an important part of the team in terms of being an option and training with the squad, etc., but as far as actual participation, if Kofi plays, that will be unique that two brothers have hit the field for the same country in the same year in different youth World Cups.
