So long, farewell

Weariness, yellow cards, bad weather and nerves in front of goal do in the U.S. versus Austria. They go out in extra time in the quarterfinal rounds, clearly somewhat fatigued still from their overtime match versus Uruguay. Yet they've also got to be kicking themselves for some of the chances they let get away in this match.

The US should have won this game. Austria's forward was a handful but the rest of their team was SLOW and not really much to speak of.

I thought the US gave the ball away too easily. Often with no pressure US players would just kick it as far as they could. If there is a strength of the US team it is great defensive organization. But when it comes to playing on the ball, it's hard to see how we've gotten any better since the last U-20 WC.

The tactics are basically get the ball to Adu and let him create, and everyone else defend and just kick it. Michael Bradley played well, I have to give him his props. He worked tirelessly and stepped up when the US needed him.

It's just disappointing to lose to a team like Austria. They could not stop Adu, but unfortunately our backs and most of our midfielders just passed the ball to the Austrians and never gave Adu and Altidore much of a chance.

Good analysis by John. Adu and Bradley looked like men among boys, the rest of the US team committed numerous unbelievable turnovers. The attacking ability (starting with simple passes) of our fullbacks left a lot to be desired.

Adu needs to leave the MLS and go to Europe to grow his talent and skill. No disrespect to the MLS. The MLS is just not the type of league that is best suited for his growth at this time. I'd say he should go to Spain or Netherlands, but not England. The English fans are not too keen on his talents right now and I don't think the poor kid could take any negative comments.

Same goes for Altidore as far as Europe. With that kid's physical ability and stature, he should be good to go in any league. Unlike Freddy, because he does not hae the hype of being "the first great American soccer star" I think English fans would be more open to him. Yes, its unfair. But thats life.
