Sam Reynolds is a bit of a journeyman, but his tale is unique. While other journeymen bounce from team to team over a span of a few years, Reynolds does so over the span of one season.
Reynolds was in goal for Toronto FC and helped them earn a tie at Kansas City on Saturday. Reynolds is a pool goalkeeper, which means he is assigned to teams based on needs. Typically, he's at Chivas USA and serves as their third goalkeeper. He's usually training alongside Brad Guzan and Preston Burpo but hasn't been called on at all by Chivas USA.
Still, he gets to participate in team functions, like a trip to Disneyland earlier this year, and even got to wear big white gloves like Sacha Kljestan and Burpo, both gainfully employed by the Chivas USA.
But Toronto needed him, and coach Mo Johnston called on him. Reynolds responded in his first MLS game ever with a strong effort.

Reynolds did it again tonight, earning the first road win for Toronto, kicking Fake Salt Lake's ass 2-1. Looks like the "poolkeeper" has been kicking a lot of folks out of the pool recently. I love it! (Honestly, he looked better than Rimando tonight and equal to Hartman at KC last weekend. Reynolds is legit.)
