Soccer in Spanish

It's just more exciting, in my opinion. Shots of the fans, goal celebrations, stats comparing two big stars, announcers who seem excited about the match itself.

Highlights of the Crew/Wizards match in English.

Highlights in the language that does it right.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. If only SportsCenter did their soccer highlights like the ESPNDeportes guys do...its not so much the language that makes it better - just better highlights, period. More time, more music, more care.

I suppose it's a cop-out for me to say it's better because it's in Spanish - you're right, it's better because it's simply more well done. It just happens to be in Spanish.

ESPND and most Spanish speaking announcers just understands the game and passion to another level.

I was just telling my wife the same thing the other day. My wife's first language was Spanish so she helps translate while I am learning to speak Spanish. For now I mostly understand GOL!GOL!GOL!GOL! Kudos to MLS for showing sunday games on Telefutura.

The passion is what makes it so much better in Spanish. What i dislike about the American broadcasters is that it just sounds so analytical and souless. They try to explain everything to the audience as if all the viewers in america are soccer stupid or something. Maybe a middle ground between play by play analyzing and passoinate announcing is needed.

Its funny, the Spanish version was pretty crappy for a Spanish highlight package. It sounded like a relatively bad NBA highlight in English. It was clearly better than the English version, but it wasn't a great example of a good Spanish highlight.

Also, it's clearly not a language issue, it's a country issue. Americans suck at announcing soccer. The English and the Irish do it wonderfully. Americans just don't have a feel for it. Sometimes it feels like Americans learned the sport from a book.

Sorry but soccer is way better in english - from england.

While my spanish is poor at best, I will watch a match in spanish over an "american" broadcast any day of the week. The spanish broadcasters create the feel of the game that good sports broadcasters bring to the table.

Hear, hear.

I agree that it's the passion and knowledge and style not the language that matter. (the very reason I catch German feeds online as much as possible of any match I want to watch)

its all in the passion - the spaninsh language broadcasters have it, the American english broadcasters do not. Every now and then, we get a good exciting broadcast in english, but they are far and few between.

Regarding that post saying England broadcasters are as exciting as US Spanish broadcasts, I have to agree. The US broadcasters have a ways to go before they put their heart and soul into the game.

Oh, and on a side note, when announcing the game, no one cares where the player went to high school or how his best friend's next door neighbor influenced his game. Talk about the game, the plays, the tactics, not the history of the individual player.
