Becks gets testy

The situation here was probably partly perspective - some consider wingers to be essentially forwards that sit farther back, while midfielders win the ball on the defensive end and trigger the attack. Either way, though, David Beckham had a point, and his patience was wearing thin during this press conference exchange.

for someone who's supposed to be thick as two short planks, he was pretty quick on his feet making the interviewer look dumb

Who was asking the questions? That was brutal.

"That's the only time I've seen you back to help."

My reply: "how many games have you watched?"

must be trying to have to answer questions from reporters who don't know (or even understand) the game.

welcome to america, becks.

saludos, d

Great clip, thank you. But really who WAS that guy? He can't have read much about English football in the last 12 years, where the critics' pet peeve was that Becks left his post to track back too much, and his fan's favorite accolade was that he covered every blade of grass on the pitch. In Madrid they loved both of those things about him...but in Spanish football wing midfielders and wing backs do a lot more overlapping runs -- and of course ALL of Capello's players anywhere cover for each other.

The questions would have been really funny (I assume those were members of the press laughing) if they didn't seem so rude. Or maybe that was just the guy's ignorance, still...is that normal?

Diane, I have to admit, a few reporters seem to want to prove that they aren't awed by David - but they go to an extreme and become downright confrontational at times.

The guy was just trying to make a name for himself. Being confrontational as opposed to professional just makes you seem ignorant.

well handled Becks...

As for the reporter he should hang up his tape recorder, notepad, and pen and find another profession.

Do they even check press credentials at the HDC anymore... seems like every week you hear on some blog that Becks was short with reporter.

Becks is all over the damn field during the matches I have seen this year, and I have seen everyone broadcast. This reporter needs to do something else for a living.

The reporter is actually a radio guy, Spanish talk radio, actually. AM 1020 KTNQ's Alex Russo.
