Open Cup opens

In the midst of the Gold Cup and the MLS season, there has been a lot of soccer to keep us busy here in the U.S. But lest not we forget, the U.S. Open Cup is also in full swing.

Pretty much everything went to form, though. The only USL-1 side to lose was Miami FC, who is making it a habit of losing to lower-division teams in the first round. A year ago, Miami lost to Dallas Roma FC and now they lose to PDL side El Paso in penalty kicks.

The only USASA side to win so far has been the Milwaukee Bavarians, who beat USL-2 side Cincinnati 1-0. USL-1 side Atlanta destroyed USASA's Dallas Azzurri by an astonishing 10-0 (I wonder if my boy El Guero is back on the bandwagon).

Full scoreboard here.

The team with the coolest name is still alive. Lynch's Irish Pub FC is scheduled to play USL-1 side Charlotte tonight. The game was delayed because the flight Lynch's Irish Pub FC was scheduled to take to the match was canceled. Here's a little background on the club.

Second round fixtures are almost set and will be played on June 26.

Hehe, no. I'm not going to get all excited about a double-digit win over an amateur side.

But some people are taking things way too far.
