Golden guys

Seeing Kasey Keller on the Futbol Mundial USA mag (this one's in English, pick up a copy!), reminded me of what a stud in goal the guy has been for the U.S. for so long. With Eddie Pope, another impressive player, announcing his retirement, it really seems like a sunset era for quite a few players.

If Keller doesn't find his ideal club situation, he may retire this year as well.

Keller is a fine goalkeeper, but the guy rubs me the wrong way. I find him really pompous, arrogant, and annoying, particularly in recent articles regarding his potential switch to the MLS.

He still has skills, but is past his prime. I was at the T&T game where he made a couple decent saves, but was also caught off-balance by a 40-yard freekick, took a direct kick too quickly near the end of the game nearly bouncing the ball into our goal, and when forced to run for the then deflected ball.

He'll be known as one of the all-time great US keepers, but needs to get comfortable with the current state of his value and skill level.

Hey, where can I get a copy of this magazine?
I think Kasey is still good, but needs to consider to slow down. He is picky about what team he'd like to play, but maybe he will realize, that he is not the youngest anymore

You can subscribe on their website, but I also believe the English-language one comes packaged with USA Today in their weekend sports coverage once a month.

I've been unsure as to how to address the "Kasey seems arrogant" comments, because I think people are entitled to their own impressions.

I'm not going to say he's humble and shy, but I also think Kasey is very honest and direct, probably more so than any other USMNT player, except maybe Donovan. People ask them both all sorts of questions, and because they answer honestly, sometimes they might come off as blunt.

I do agree that he might have a slightly warped view of MLS. Cobi Jones, for example, has taken a salary cut in his last year in the league to stay with the Galaxy. Cobi is still proving to be a valuable player, but as his age, his willingness to take less in salary shows his understanding of where the league stands and what it's willing to pay for even a highly decorated USMNT member.
