Excuses, excuses

For as accomplished of a national team as they are, sometimes Mexico can come across as whiny complainers, notably coach Hugo Sanchez.

I watched an interview Telefutura had of him that was aired at halftime of the US game on Tuesday, and the only clip they showed was of Sanchez saying that because the field was in so poor condition that Mexico could not get their game going the way they wanted to in any of the first two games.

Like Andrea told me the other day, the field may have been in bad shape but it's not like Honduras played on a different field.

The first game I covered that featured a Hugo Sanchez-led team was a friendly between Pumas and River Plate in San Diego in 2004. Sanchez complained about the refereeing afterward. It was a non-stop bitchfest about the refs. I think the score was like 4-1 or something because, yeah, a score like that clearly reflects some sort of referee bias.
