Klinsi Down Under?
Nothing says, "We're serious about becoming a top soccer nation." more than going after the world's top coaches. First the Aussies get Hiddink, now they're apparently chasing Jurgen Klinsmann.
It would be a slap in the face to U.S. Soccer if homebody Klinsmann rejected a job that would basically have been right down the street from him and took one that's about as far from home as he could possibly get.

Australia should do what Gulati should have:
"Okay Jurgen, here are the keys. The clutch sticks sometimes and the gas meter doesn't always read correctly but otherwise she's all yours."

If this happens Gulati should be fired. No excuses. End of story.
