John Carver mentioned at yesterday's presser that he was bringing someone over to help him coach Toronto FC. He wouldn't tell us who it was - "He's not signed the contract yet," he pointed out.
We figured it was probably someone from Europe, because England is where Carver has been his entire previous career, and new coaches usually bring in people they know to help them out.
Later on, when Beckham was speaking to the press, a Norwegian reporter asked him about Ole Gunnar Solskjær, a former Manchester United teammate who has now retired. Ole had a plethora of injury problems and has now moved into coaching.
Hmmmm - ok, semi-wild speculation says Ole has years of experience in England, is a new coach on the scene - hey! We'll see, I guess.
Carver expected to announce the new arrival in the next few days. "I'll be delighted to do so," he added, which really made me think that the new coach is not some unknown schmo.
Considering that TFC is a team in Canada, though, I kind of wish they'd take a look at this guy:

AC, I know this is off topic but do you know why the Galaxy are incapable of replacing Edson, Peter, or Abel? Given their salaries they should be able to sign some players capable of starting. Do salary cap rules not allow them to dump these contracts mid-year? Does the organization have no scouting department? It makes such little sense to me that those players are still on the team that I am wondering if their playing time is just a matter of contracts that can not be torn up or at least bought out.
The players with guaranteed contracts are very few and far between. There's a balance to be struck with the moves as well. As I said after the loss to Colorado, Galaxy admins have been too quick to pull the trigger on a lot of moves in the past, trading away players that turned out to be very productive for other teams. Then it takes a while to work in new players.
Unless I'm missing a Spanish double entendre, shouldn't that be "Cogito, ergo, blog"?
See where I get when I try to be both clever and type fast?

Remember who runs this team: The same men who signed Celetine Babayaro to a three-year contract and then released him.
As far as the new Toronto hire goes...well, Hugo Sanchez and Steve Sampson are available... ;D
It's okay, A.C. Descartes forgives you...

And traded Findlay and Sturgis for Klien. Lest we forget.
I though the rumour was that Dasovic was being brought in as an assistant coach for TFC? At least that's the only name I've heard that's been thrown around.
I think Dasovic would be a good move for TFC, and I hope he gets the post. I'm not really serious about the possibility of Ole, but I was highlighting the tendency of coaches not to pick up local guys for assistant coaching positions. I hope Carver bucks that trend.
What was the question that the Norwegian reporter asked Beckham about? Was it, by any chance:
"David, how did it feel back in late 2002 when Sir Alex Ferguson dropped you fron your right midfield slot in favour of a striker, Ole Gunner Solskjaer, because you were simply no longer able to cut it at the top level?"
Just curious.....
