Sorry readers, we like to think we're pretty sharp here at Sideline Views, but sometimes things go woosh - and we miss some obvious possibilities.
The Washington Post's Steven Goff, way over on the East Coast, also has a blog. He got some inside tip on the Galaxy trying to sign a Brazilian forward - which Frank Yallop didn't exactly deny.
As I'd already mentioned in our blog, I'd just seen Ednaldo da Conceicao at the Home Depot Center. The Galaxy's former #20 is tall, pretty much a classic target forward. He might have been expendable to Yallop back when Alan Gordon was healthy (his salary was a bit steep as well), but if he came back for a year's contract at a reasonable price, he might just fill the bill.
Just after Albright went down with his injury (and possibly axed the deal to trade him for Jeff Cunningham), I asked Yallop if he could envision the Galaxy ever bringing back former players, even ones he'd traded, back to the squad one day. Frankly, I had in mind players like Ugo Ihemelu, Herculez Gomez and Todd Dunivant - young players that might become available at some point.
Anyway, Frank agreed that that such moves could very well happen, if the deal could be made.
Voila - 10 percent circumstance, 90 percent speculation, but here's my call on the the new Brazilian. Naldo's back, folks.
