More player analysis

For espn.com

To some people, the U.S. match could look even in both halves, considering the reality that in each half, the U.S. scored a goal and Trinidad and Tobago none.

But the momentum belonged to Trinidad and Tobago at the end of the half. The neutrals in the crowd were intrigued by their effort and a little disappointed in the U.S.

The heat was also taking a toll on the American players, while the islanders seemed less affected.

Landon Donovan came on and steadied things.

In the press box, someone joked, "Now the U.S. team has become the Galaxy - they just have trouble going anywhere without Donovan."

Cant say I agree with some of your player assesment's from the US/T&T game. I thought Feilhaber delivered some accurate and timely through balls/service to the boys up top and did provide an attacking element.
I also felt that Mapp's play (in this game and others) is essential for the development of the US squad. We really need that creative, fast outside mid that typtifies the Man U's/ Chelsea's (and I'm an Arsenal fan admitting this) of the world. We read so many articles underscoring how US players are so rigid in their play, unimaginative compared to their south american (among other nations) counterparts. Mapp's style of play paves the way for this development in the US. We should focus less on how he fails to "gel" with the US midfielders and more on how he compares to the likes of the Robbens of the world. That creative, taking players on attitude that Mapp embodies is exactly what the US needs to succeed in breaking down the bigger foes that we will ultimately need to beat to gain success at the highest of international levels.
