Matchday stories

I perused the local papers to see what had been written on the Galaxy's game tonight.

The Daily Breeze chimed in with a feature on Joe Cannon, which may seem a bit odd since he may not play tonight. The LA Times focused on the release of player salaries. MLS deputy commish Ivan Gazidis tries to justify the low developmental player salaries and actually makes a good case. The OC Register has a few graphs on the game.

as unpopular as it sounds, if a player is truly developmental, i have on issues with that low salary. my issue is this, if they are going to site MLB as justification for their salaries, they need to realize that once a minor leaguer is brought up, they are immediately raised to the major league minimum. IMO, anyone that is on the roster as a development player should not be allowed in a game until they are on the regular roster, and all regular roster spots should have a living wage . . . minimum 40k - 50k.

I'm just not sure that's a feasible option, given that a developmental player may only feature on the bench as backup, or play only a few minutes. If teams are penalized on the salary cap for a bringing up a developmental player, they won't do it - and developmental players lose that which makes their job attractive in the first place - the chance at first-team time.
