Mexican liguilla

I'm getting ready to watch the Mexican league playoffs. First up is Cruz Azul-Atlante on Azteca America at 5 p.m. SoCal time, then it's San Luis-Guadalajara over on TeleFutura at 7 p.m.

In case you want to follow along and don't know the league too well or want to read up on how the teams are entering the liguilla, check out my SI.com preview.

Nice preview LB. I don't hold much hope for Chivas but you never know. Santos & Toluca would seem to be the favorites but, as always with these playoffs, we shall see.

saludos luis,

espero sigas bien. i wanted to tell you how much i truly enjoy your coverage of the mexicican league, which i love watching.

i've been meaning to ask about your thoughts are on the current state of mexican refereeing... i ask because it is common to hear mexican commentators criticise the level of american refs, which i agree is poor...

however, i have to say that i am often appalled by the calls in the mexican league. i often wonder if the refs and the games in mexico are not, well, rigged.

i know this sounds crazy, but last night's game in c.u. is a case in point. the calls during the game between pumas and toluca seemed really off for a professional league.

on espn's futbol picante, joseramon called the calls 'dirty.' and the refereeing in the morelia/santos game also seemed extremely suspect. not too mention the countless baseless calls benefiting club america through the years....

i would love to hear your thoughts on this. i love your column, your blog as well. i thought the piece on your weight loss was one of the gutsiest things you have ever written. keep up the great work.

saludos, federico
