No thanks

FC Dallas had the chance to sign an international defender but passed. Gustavo Cabrera of the Guatemalan national team and Comunicaciones tried but failed to latch on to FC Dallas. Despite not exactly featuring a wealth of defensive talent, FC Dallas brass apparently felt they could do without the services of a Guatemalan defender.

Of course, it's not just his skill level that has to be considered here. Cabrera would take up a senior international slot, and you don't want to use those on just a marginal or decent player. I've always felt teams should maximize their senior international slots and I don't know that Cabrera would fit that description.

Still, Cabrera must really have not impressed because FC Dallas' defense is shitty no matter if they play with six defensive midfielders.

No more senior spots right, just 8 international.

Be careful of belaboring this point about FCD's defense, Luis. If they turn out to have a good defense this year, you'll really have some crow to eat.

What edward said.

8 international spots total. 75% of your starting line-up could be non-USA people.

So not as much pressure to maximize as before, but still only 8 out of 28.

Send him over to Chivas USA to see what he's got

l.b., Dallas' defense can't be worse than the Galaxy's.

As Dallas fan, I worry about the defense. However, signing a player who couldn't make it on a awful RSL team doesn't really bother me at all. It will be interesting to see what Dallas does to fill the third spot in their 3 D lineup. Regardless, it can't be any worse than last season, can it?

Or how about the fact that he's simply just not very good, dumbass. Look at the FCD international spots, who do you cut on FCD's roster to replace with a mediocre defender that couldn't make RSL's roster.
