K-Mart update

The venerable Billy Witz of the LA Daily News checks in on Kyle Martino.

The writing is on the wall for Martino. I think he could still be of use in this league but his best role is in the center of the field, and that's where the Galaxy has other options.

Martino for Samuel Doe would be a fair trade. Not that NYRB needs another right-footed midfielder.

Who wants him? And what do the Gals get in return? I'd like to see another consistent forward, but maybe they just want an allocation to apply against the salary cap...

If I'm San Jose, I'm inquiring about Martino. He would help out their midfield depth.

In return for what? Allocation $$?

I can't see SJ giving up any of its defenders, which is where their strength lies and where the Gals could use some depth and youth.

If the Galaxy is going to cut him, offer a supplemental draft pick. They'd at least get something in return instead of nothing in return.

At worst, offer them a fourth-round draft pick. Picks are better than nothing, unless you consider supplemental picks nothing to begin with.

What a commentary. Rookie of the year to potentially getting traded for a 4th round draft pick. That is the proverbial bag of balls right there (I think I'm going to try to start a thing where instead of saying "bag of balls" we say "steer for slaughter" in memory of that Romanian team that sold a player in return for food for the players - that should catch on like wet firewood with no kindling.)
