Thanks to one our eagle-eyed readers, it has come to my attention that indeed the US and Mexico have not met in the Gold Cup final three times as I had mentioned earlier.
In fact, the US and Mexico have met only twice before, in 1993 and 1998.
This even makes my initial argument stronger, since only 2 of the 8 Gold Cups that have been contested have culminated in a US-Mexico final.
