Guten Tag, Austria!

Actually, Luis is the one who studied German, while I've got working command of about fifty phrases related to travel and being polite.

Anyway, we're now adding Austria to our roll call of visitors.

Looking at the Austrian national team logo, it's hard not to get the feeling DC United was "inspired" by it. On the other hand, before I get slammed by DC fans - I have made no extensive studies of logos worldwide and realize there are probably a dozen similar eagle logos.

Anyway, LA has a recent Austrian connection, as Andreas Herzog played here in 2004. Technically, he was great - if he'd arrived just a few years earlier, he could have been one of the league's all-time stars.

Actually, that's the current, kinder, gentler, trans-am logo...the old one looks even more, um, Teutonic. If the html coding I inserted doesn't work, try this link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/images/logos/soccer/united2.gif
