Sonny boy

To me, one of the biggest disappointments for the Galaxy this season has been Santino Quaranta. Santino could offer so much to the Galaxy's offense. He can be dangerous on the ball and a load to handle on the left flank. Ideally, he'd be a weapon on the left side and with Ante Jazic and Kyle Martino also out there the Galaxy could be fairly dangerous on the part of the field.

Instead, Santino has struggled for playing time on a team that desperately needs bodies and offense. He's played six games, has three starts and has yet to register a point.

I took these pictures, well, a bunch of pictures actually, at a recent Galaxy training session. I was trying to get some decent action shots of players. When I was reviewing them, I noticed a common theme in the background - Quaranta's apparent lack of hustle.

Maybe it's coincidence that he looks nailed to the ground on each of these pictures. Maybe I caught him as he was in the middle of a sprint and the photos make him appear stationary.

Or maybe he was just going through the motions.

What do you guys think about Santino?

Couldn't agree more. When a professional athlete can't bother to get into shape, you know he's not worthy of the roster spot he's been given.

When Frank Yallop became coach last year, he declared that the Galaxy were "out of shape" yet he seems to tolerate Santino's condition...

Welcome to the frustrating world of Tino Quaranta. He has all the talent in the world...and yet, having watched him for 5+ years at DC, your pictures don't surprise me at all. No one (or very few people) in DC was sad to see him traded. Kinda like when the Wizards sent Kwame Brown to the Lakers (thanks for Caron Butler, Lakers!).

I agree. Tino is blowing it big time. The fact that Yallop hasn't sent him packing yet is surprising; guess it's because they absolutely need the bodies. But I expect once all is in place with new players, etc., if Tino hasn't improved, he will be gone at the end of the season. What a shame.

Maybe if the fans offer to buy him and the wife a car seat, he'll pick up the slack.

That is one of the most frustrating thing about some of the young players who have failed to deliver on their potential. You can see the game outside the game has gotten in their head. Instead of busting hump when they DO get playing time to prove that even if their form is subpar for a day they belong out there, they loaf it. I thought that was a large part of EJ's problem last year and I see some of that coming from Freddy this year. So many unmade runs.

Not to justify Santino's loafing, but how people people commenting here can state truthfully that they NEVER slack on their jobs?

The difference is that no one pays to watch us at work!
