Colorful match

The game has started and the stadium is pretty much a sea of blue and green: blue Guatemalan jerseys mixed in with empty green seats. The Guatemalans are pretty vocal while the one section filled with U.S. fans is hearty so far, but when the Guatemalans all cheer, you can't hear the U.S. supporters.

The offense seems to have settled down. Dempsey, Twellman, and Beasley are playing well, Donovan gave several great passes. It could have easily been 3:0.

But I am a bit concerned about Gouch being in the middle of the defense. The guy is foul-prone and his touch on the ball needs work. A better team would have picked the ball from him on several occasions.

Gooch is a work in progress. At least that's what he showed me tonight. He needs to be aware that he's got to play smarter when he has a yellow card.

I did not blame him so much for getting tossed. The first yellow seemed b.s., and I would like to see the replay of the 2nd one. Given how much diving Ruiz was doing, I would not blame Gooch too much.

I just think that at this point, he is a big body and not much else.
