Superceding the SuperLiga

The new SuperLiga tournament will be held this summer across the United States. The tournament is open only to MLS and Mexican clubs.

The CONCACAF Champions Cup is open to all of CONCACAF. However, the old standby is looking a lot like the flash new tournament.
Chivas and Pachuca each went through at the expense of W Connection and Deportivo Marquense.

D.C. joined the two Mexican clubs in the semifinals after a 3-2 win over Olimpia of Honduras in a quarterfinal series on Thursday. Houston also beat Costa Rican side Puntarenas 2-0 in another quarterfinal match.

Thus, the semifinals will be: D.C. United-Chivas de Guadalajara and Pachuca-Houston. These two series are actually a bit more compelling than the SuperLiga because these will be home-and-away series. It will be interesting to see how D.C. United handles Chivas in Guadalajara. They did terrible in Mexico City against Pumas a few years back.

Now all we are waiting for is a proper Champions League of the Americas!
With a Colorado Rapids-Real Potosi series we could truly breathe in the rarified atmosphere of significant international competition to leave NFL trailing in our wake and give any remaining Eurosnobs a wake-up call.
