When I was interviewing Tim Donnelly for a recent column, he mentioned he'd played with Orange County Blue Star. Of course, I had to ask if he'd played with the squad's most famous member, Jurgen Klinsmann.
He had.
"I grew up watching Jurgen Klinsmann and then I got to train with him all the time. He’d put his initials on the card and referees couldn’t believe it when they saw it was him. He was just a modest guy and I learned a lot from him. It’s a small world."
I did the interview with Tim by phone, so I don't have a photo, but here's video of him in action.
