More Cobi thoughts

I thought Cobi Jones was done in 2004. He had just finished a zero-goal season that also saw him play 1,751 minutes, second-worst in his career. His career low was in 2002, when he was still a part of the U.S. national team.

In 2005, he came back for his 10th season and I thought it was a mistake. I thought he should have called it quits. After all, look at his career output in goals:

98: 19
99: 8
00: 7
01: 6
02: 3
03: 2
04: 0

If ever there was slow and steady decline, this was it.

But Cobi proved me wrong. In 2005, he started 27 games and played in 31. He scored three goals. But more importantly he was one of the Galaxy's best players down the stretch and in the playoffs. I learned after that playoff run to trust in Cobi and that as long as he played, he would be effective.
